VERTICAL CLAY

Vertical Clay practices and teaches natural building.  Natural building is the use of local natural materials in construction, as well as the relearning and updating of traditional construction techniques from around the world.  Natural building involves the structural use of a few primary materials:  clay soil, straw and other fibers, sand, bamboo, stone, wood, and recycled materials.

The variety of construction in natural building is virtually endless.  Vertical Clay focuses on the techniques of cob, adobe, straw-clay, clay wattle, wattle-and-daub, earth and lime plasters, earthen floors, and certain kinds of bamboo and straw bale construction. Using these techniques we work both with new construction and with retrofitting existing structures.
